Robot Vacuum Not Charging or Dock Has No Power?


Charging faults are among the most common problems we see in robot vacuum systems. The symptom may look simple — the robot will not charge, the dock appears dead, the app says it cannot find the base, or the battery percentage never rises — but the cause can be anywhere from dirty contacts to a failed power-supply stage on the dock PCB.


Common charging and dock symptoms


  • Robot sits on the dock but does not begin charging

  • Charging starts and stops repeatedly

  • Dock has no lights or appears completely dead

  • Robot returns to the dock but immediately leaves again

  • Battery percentage falls while docked

  • Dock output voltage is unstable or collapses under load

  • Auto-empty or mop-washing station powers partly but some functions do not work

  • Robot reports a charging, base or battery error


Simple checks before workshop diagnosis


  • Confirm the wall outlet and power lead work with a known-good load where appropriate

  • Clean the robot and dock charging contacts with a suitable electronics-safe method

  • Check that spring-loaded dock contacts move freely and are not recessed

  • Inspect for corrosion, liquid residue, heat damage or damaged connectors

  • Restart the robot and dock according to the manufacturer's normal procedure

  • If the battery is removable or serviceable, check for swelling or obvious damage rather than forcing further charging


When the problem is inside the dock


Self-emptying and self-washing stations contain their own power electronics and control boards. A dock can fail at the AC input, fuse or protection stage, rectification stage, low-voltage supply, switching components, connectors or downstream loads. Replacing the whole dock is not always the first or best answer; board-level diagnosis can identify whether the failed section is repairable.


Why voltage that cycles up and down matters


A low-voltage rail that repeatedly rises and collapses can indicate a power supply entering protection, a short or excessive load on the output, a faulty switching or rectifier component, or a downstream board pulling the rail down. That behaviour is different from a stable but incorrect voltage and helps narrow the diagnosis.


Robot-side charging faults


The dock is only half of the charging system. Battery packs, charging MOSFETs, connectors, contact assemblies, temperature sensing and the robot mainboard can also prevent charging. Testing the robot and dock together is usually the fastest way to determine which side is responsible.

Charging & Dock Repair FAQs


Yes. For a charging, docking, auto-empty, water-system or station-power fault, bring the robot, dock and its normal power lead. Testing the complete system avoids guessing which half is failing.

Sometimes. A dead dock may have a repairable power-supply or board-level fault, but severe damage or unavailable proprietary parts can make replacement more practical. Diagnosis is needed first.

No. A failed battery is one possibility, but charging contacts, dock electronics, wiring, temperature sensing and mainboard charging circuits can produce very similar symptoms.
